Cambridge and Hamilton Farmers Markets 22nd. & 23rd. December.

Cambridge:    Victoria Square   8am - 12pm.

Strawberries with cream, ice-cream, chocolate covered, icing sugar covered, Strawberry Christmas trees, Strawberry Santas, however you use your strawberries on Christmas Day they will be in abundant supply at the market for Xmas, but they do go fast so get your supply before they sell out. Kane’s Strawberries and Big Berry have different sizes and varieties available. Skaha Apricots - There are now three varieties on offer at the market this weekend. Just look for the apricot banner. If you are thinking about making your own fresh fruit salad for Christmas, get them local and fresh at the Farmers Market. Royal Rosa, Sundrop and Skaha are all delicious varieties, they will also have Wilson Early plums and possibly other stone fruit available as well. Come down and take a look.

Fresh fresh berries - Organic blueberries, raspberries, boysenberries etc, it’s all available freshly picked and grown to perfection. A wonderful addition to the Christmas feast table and fantastic in your own fresh fruit salad.

This will be the last weekend that asparagus will be available. This will be the end of a short asparagus season for Greenfern Asparagus. Bill and Irene would like to thank their customers for supporting them over this difficult season, their asparagus has been very popular over the season and it will be a long time before we see those delicious spears again, get them before they sell out.

Cato’s Potatoes and Garlic will have Pink Fir apple potatoes - If you are interested to see this variety of potato, come down and take a look. It’s a cigar shaped, knobbly potato with a pink skin and yellowish flesh. It has an amazing nutty flavour and will make a great addition to your Christmas table this year. They will also have Heather and Agria varieties, broccoli, beetroot, green mature garlic for use or drying, spring onions and spinach.

There will be so much more available at the market this weekend. It’s the perfect place to get all your freshly picked and local produce for Christmas. Many varieties of lettuce - look for the yellow cart - fresh herbs, mesclun, artisan cheese, salmon, Christmas lilies, Christmas cakes, Christmas mince-pies, Christmas puddings, Free range Christmas Hams and so much more. Come and take a look at the best the Waikato has to offer this weekend.

Don’t let those raindrops put you off - It’s going to be a great day to get your fresh local produce for Christmas at the Farmers Market this Sunday. Richard and Judy at Cato’s Potatoes will have an interesting looking potato, it’s called Pink Fir Apple Potato and it has a wonderful nutty flavour and will make a great addition to your Christmas feast this year. Great when boiled, steamed, jacket-baked or put in a salad, it is a variety that has been around for over a century and is having a revival. They will also have Heather and Agria Potatoes, broccoli, beetroot, green mature garlic for use or drying, spring onions and spinach.

Get your strawberries at the market this weekend, Big Berry and The Strawberry Farm will have plenty of delicious strawberries available. They sell out fast so get in while you can. Kane’s Strawberries may not be there as they usually sell out the day before in Cambridge as the locals buy their Cambridge grown strawberries. However you like your strawberries, take a look on our facebook page to look at interesting ways to use strawberries for the Christmas table - I personally love the Strawberry Santas - easy to do as well.

This will be the last weekend for asparagus - We will miss those tender delicious spears, it’s been a short season and Bill and Irene would like to thank their customers for their support this season. Asparagus is fantastic with melted butter or hollandaise sauce. Also great for a hangover - it’s true!! If you have over-indulged at Christmas, asparagus is a great remedy.

Bland’s Apricots will have a great variety this weekend and it’s one their regular customers having waiting for, it’s the Skaha variety - very sweet and juicy and larger than the Royal Rosa variety. They will also have Royal Rosa on offer, as well as Sundrop variety. They also have a nice supply of Wilson Early plums and possibly other stone fruit available. If you are going to make your own fresh fruit salad this Christmas - grab some delicious apricots and plums - look for the apricot banner.

If you are looking for a great appetizer for Christmas Day, or you are relaxing the day after with a glass of wine - get some home-made hummus with Carrie’s Hummus (next to Roberto’s Kitchen) great when teamed with Volare’s ciabatta. next to Roberto’s Kitchen. It doesn’t taste like the mass produced hummus at the supermarket - free from preservatives and other things we can’t pronounce - healthy and full of nutritional and fresh ingredients. The flavors are amazing and worth a try with the tasters. There isn’t as much as there should be - all the chickpeas sold out early this week, so it’s a limited supply - get in while you can with Sun- dried Tomato, Garlic, Original and Olive.

There will lots of fresh local produce on offer this Sunday, the one stop shop for everything freshly picked and grown to perfection. Many varieties of potatoes available including Jersey Benne and Maori potatoes, organic blueberries, raspberries, boysenberries, blackberries, Christmas Cakes, Christmas mince-pies, Christmas puddings, Christmas shortbread, Free range Christmas Hams, specialty sausages, free range bacon, home - grown beef, free range eggs, artisan cheese, salmon, many varieties of lettuce - look for the yellow cart - mesclun, fresh herbs, Christmas lilies and so much more available at the last market before Christmas Day.
